In English you can be kind to someone. Some other adjectives that describe the way people treat other people (for example unkind, nice, friendly, polite and rude) follow the same pattern:
✓ Jane’s being very unkind/rude to me recently. I don’t know why.
✗ Jane’s being very unkind/rude *with* me recently. I don’t know why.
Jane è molto sgarbata con me ultimamente. Non so perché.
✓ Bob’s being nice to me. I wonder what he wants.
✗ Bob’s being very nice *with* me. I wonder what he wants.
Bob fa il gentile con me. Chissa cosa vuole.
✓ He’s always friendly to everyone he meets, especially children.
✗ He’s always friendly *with* everyone he meets, especially children.
E’ sempre amichevole con tutti quelli che incontra, soprattutto i bambini.
