Travel broadens the mind.
(Il) Viaggiare allarga la mente.
When we go from one place to another, this is a journey. We can speak about a single journey:
✓ To save you a journey, I’ll take it to him tomorrow if you like.
✗ To save you *a travel*, I’ll take it to him tomorrow if you like.

or about journeys:
✓ Children can get bored on long journeys.
✗ Children can get bored on long *travels*.

We also use journey in a figurative sense:

Travel can be an uncountable noun in a general sense:
Travel makes one modest. One sees what a tiny place one occupies in the world.
Viaggiare rende umile. Uno vede quant’è minuscolo il posto che occupa nel mondo.
(Gustave Flaubert)
or a verb:
To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.
Viaggiare è scoprire che tutti hanno torto riguardo altri paesi.
(Aldous Huxley)
Travel cannot be a singular, countable noun. We can’t say, for example, *a travel*:
✓ Have a good journey!
✗ Have *a* good travel!
Buon viaggio!
Notice that travel is commonly used as an adjective in compound nouns, so we can say a travel agent, a travel blog, etc. Some examples:
